On Dragonfly Wings

Decided to enjoy some fresh air today and go for a hike.  When I got home and looked at the pictures I took I realized I had some kind of weird fascination with dragon flies.  They seemed to change colours depending on how the light hit them.  For the most part today they were purple with specks of greens and blues and pinks.

Of course my first thought is that I'd love to get a nail polish to look like this.  Well I think I came close.  I used iridescent white and purple in a clear suspension base.  The purple took on a slight holo effect with glints of turquoise.  All the glitter is a tinsel as well.  It tends to have better colour change qualities.

The above pic is indoors with a flash.  You can see the variation of colours showing.

The above is outside.  It's beautiful with the sun shining on the bottle.

This one is inside but natural light.  I love the depth of this new creation.  Lovingly called On Dragonfly Wings.

Wham Glam Thank You Ma'am

This blog is going to be picture heavy so I hope you have a good internet speed !!
The title is what I said when I finished this beauty so I thought the name should stick.  When I started to work on polish this morning I looked at my hundreds of bottles and my hundreds of glitters and decided to grab all my favourites and just stare at them a bit.  Yeah......I'm weird.   In front of me sat my lovely Gasoline Dreams,  My Dragons Belly ( no magic fairy dust )  and my Sterling Nights.  So why not mix em all up ?  Kinda sorta....
I started with a clear base and added a silver pigment until I got a slightly sheer version of it.  Then I added my magic fairy dust.  (Shook it until my arm hurt )  but still missing something.  So in went a dash of sterling glitter and a dash of fine dust sterling glitter.  Voila !  I'm adoring this polish.  The minute I have time for a mani I'm sporting this one.
This first pic is just the silver holo which is of course available as is.  I can also darken it with more silver.  Your choice as always.:)

Truly gorgeous all on its own.
The next few pics are Wham Glam Thank You Ma'am taken with a flash.

Now here she is in the natural light.

Love it love it love it !!!!  Now just two more pics for you.  I did a couple of swatches for you.  The nail on the left is over a base coat of black and on the right is over white.  I'm not sure which one I like better.

My three favourites all rolled into one.  I hope you all love it as much as I do.

Colour Me Bling

I had this in my head all day and couldn't wait for work to be over so I could get home and be creative !!
I thought " what if ?"  I love what ifs.  They end up spectacular.  I started off with a duo chrome base.  It has a tri colour effect.  Silver, purple and green.  I've always liked the duo's but never been fond of the green part.  I thought I'd add a bit of bling ( slightly holo ) glitter and poof !!  I love it !!

I wish pictures could show the colour changing effects.  The swatch above has 2 coats .  No base coat needed.  That's a good feature.

Lately it seems that I am having some very good luck with the glitters.  And BTW .....this pretty is named as the title says.  Colour Me Bling.

As promised.......

I promised you yesterday that I'd show you my new glitters over a base coat.  Post is short but sweet....
Remember these

I
This is what they look like over a pink and blue base.  I'm impressed.  It's one coat and it's pretty!!

I think I prefer the pink and I'm very far from a pink type of girl.

Glitter glitter everywhere.......

I received some new glitter today and got right to it.  I made enough base for at least 10 bottles ( I'm tired of pulling out the mask and gloves for each little bottle )  Then I decided to get busy on the kitchen table.  Spilled a bunch of polish.  Kitten tried to drink it.  Spilled a lot of acetone.  House is a smelly place now.  All in all it was 3 hours of mess with some fun results  !!

Pretty pretty pretty.....
From the left to right they are names Goofy, Mickey and Minnie.  For some reason they made me feel Walt Disney happy.
Goofy is a multi coloured hexagon glitter.  Right now all the glitter is holding its colour and I'm not seeing any melt or bleed.  It doesn't have the gritty feel of a glitter because of its size.

I'm wearing it alone so you can see the colours and glitter size.  I'll probably wear this one over a dark pallet.

Mickey is a real mash up of blues.  It looks lumpy on my nail but believe me its laying very flat.  It has a few shades of blue in there with a mix of hexagon shapes, hearts and stars.  A little yankee doodle dandy perhaps .  lol

My camera had some issues with Minnie.  It kept taking a pic that looks a bit multi colour.  This one is as pink as pink can be.  Too girlie for a tom like me.  Its also a mix of stars, hearts, hexagons and I added some finer pieces in here too.  Again I'm showing it on a nude nail to give you a good idea of its look.

My next day off I'm going to work with these glitters in some very week colour mix for a bit of pizazz.  Or I may just show some pics of them over some colours.

Either way I will be back soon to share another fun day.

My New True Loves

So I had a good day today.  I decided to put the glitter aside for a bit.   (It was making me swear a lot )  I went back to the polish that makes me happy.  Gasoline Dreams.  This time I decided to do some colour mixes with it.  My 2 favourite colours for polish are black and gunmetal...So why not make them holographic.  I'm very pleased with the results.

DRUM ROLL PLEASE !!

Introducing Fade to Black  on the left and Dragon Belly on the right.  I'm liking them so much they even make it to my toes.  As always you can see more of these and other polishes at http://www.facebook.com/DuplicatesByD

Stone Cold

I'm a lover of the black and grey polishes so today I decided to play.  I started with a tiny bit of white polish and I thinned it out with my suspension base.  Then I added black bar and regular glitter.  It doesn't look the prettiest in the bottle but I like it once applied.

The pics below are just one coat and it's just the polish itself.  No base coat or top coat.  I'll play more over different base coats another day.

I know it's a short post but I'm pooped today.  Still have the ideas in my head and I'm working on the above but in a clear base.

Can't resist a challenge

I was asked to duplicate Essie Turquoise and Caicos.  Nice challenge.  Google it and see how many different looks there are.  So I went to Walmart and took my own pic of the bottle.

Here are afew swatches from google that I found to be the right colour I saw in the store.

Well I started with a seafoam base and worked on lightening it.  Then I slowly added green and black pigments until I was happy with the results.

And here is my version ( dupe ) of the above polish.

Summer Brights

So.....I'm hearing a lot of people saying that they can't find the brights without a shimmer or glitter.  They want a plain, flat, bright colour.  Well here you go !!

Three sweet mini polishes.  I'm selling the white base coat,  the bright.  and my great top coat as a set.  My prices and info are all at http://www.facebook.com/DuplicatesByD    This bright is aptly named OMG Orange!!  I swear it's so bright that it's distracting me while I'm writing this.  Of course it's also sold on its own in a 13.5 ml bottle.

This set includes the bright mini called Punk Chick Pink.  It's a beauty.
I've got the 2 brights done and ready to go so far but I'm working on a blue and a green to complete the set..
I liked the idea of the 3 mini bottles for a few reasons.  The white base allows for the brights to go on in one coat.  With these brights I didn't use the white base in the polish itself because it toned them down too much.  I also didn't use a glossy base because it gave them a shimmer.  Basically,  in order to get that bright vibrant colour that I wanted I ended up with a flat almost matte polish.  Thus......the glossy top coat as a finishing touch.

The Punk Chick Pink is on my thumb and the OMG Orange is on the toes.  Excuse the messy mani.  It's Saturday night,  I've worked all day, and the beer is cold .  :D

Remember to visit me at http://www.facebook.com/DuplicatesByD   I'd love to hear from you

Gold Flakie Top Coat !!

After a lot of testing and playing with different suspension bases for glitter, not to mention testing numerous glitters and flakes for bleeding and melting I have finally come up with the base I want.

Thanks to Aerosil R 972 I have the perfect base for glitter.  Of course I had to share it with you all.

I filled half of the bottle with a clear polish and filled the rest with the aerosil powder.  I shook it until my arms fell off and it didn't seem to dissolve .  Very disappointing.   I walked away from it to figure out something else.  After 2 hours on google I went back to my clumpy mixture in a bottle.  To my delight it had all dissolved.  No clumps.  No discolouring.  Perfection.   In went the gold glitter flakes.  After 4 days the glitter was still suspended and no discolouration.
I still want to try one more powder that is easier to get in Canada but I'm very happy with these results.

I've used a black base so you can see the gold flakes better.  From the left.......the nail shown has one coat of my flakie.  The nail in the middle has 2 coats.  The last nail is 2 coats but I played with it and moved the flakes around while it was wet.
It's priced the same as my glitter .  You can see all of my polishes and info at http://www.facebook.com/DuplicatesByD

See you there !!!

Midnight Glitter

I'm happy with this one.  It's a glossy black base with a touch of sapphire glitter.

I'm wearing one coat over a coat of black for good coverage.  It could use a top coat due to the rough feel
on the nail.

I like the slight hint of blue in a certain light.  This one's definately a keeper.

Rocket Pops !!

Remember those?  I used to love them and seeing the picture of them made me want to go get one.  Then of course I wanted nail polish those colours.  Of course I did. :)
So here you go.......the Rocket Pops !

I know what you're saying.  Those are colours that I can find anywhere.  I thought the same thing but remember......I use a white base in all my colours.  It's a stronger pigment.  I know I know.  Boring.  So I thought lets have some fun.
Keep in mind when you're looking at the pics that I used scotch tape to attach a fake nail to my middle finger.  Haven't got the energy to do a full mani tonight.  Also....I'm lazy.
So let's get started.  First put down a white base coat.

Easy start.  Now, open all the polish bottles and be ready.  You'll also need a toothpick.  Forgot that important item.  Next,  paint stripes on your nail.  Keep in mind that you can use any colours and stripe them any direction you like.

Remember this is messy!!!  Some touch up and clean up after will be a must.  Now take your toothpick and drag it through all the stripes in a fan design.

Voila!!  Fancy nails!!  I'm sure this will look a lot better without the scotch tape and the fake nail.  lol

New Spring Pastels

I'm very happy with these pastels.  I used a white base that allowed me to have a one coat coverage with these.  The picture is after 2 days of wear ( including doing the dishes, working, etc...)  There's a very small chip on one finger but that's it.  Pretty good in my opinion.

And yes,  I did walk around with different colors on every finger.
From left to right.  1- Blissful Blue
                            2-  unnamed ( see my FB page for a contest  http://www.facebook.com/DuplicatesByD )
                            3- Banana Froth
                            4- Hint of Blush

I'm  going to have fun with these fresh spring colors, but maybe I'll just wear one at a time.  :)

                                                   Happy Nails !!!
